commentary about my portfolio
I feel honored to have the chance to tell you about my way of seeing and perceiving the entire world. So, follow me…
Ever since I realized that my life was going to be connected with art and design, I tried to understand what are the things or situations that inspire me and provide new ideas. My impressibility makes me view things differently. As new ideas appear to my mind, I immediately write them down or draw if it is more appropriate. I love wondering around the city and observing people; whenever doing that, images of items that might be created emerge in my mind. Often people ask me where I get inspiration from or what the source of it is. These questions are impossible to answer; I believe that words put people in frames. So, I better like creating, not explaining or defining. Each person has its own way of seeing and perceiving things, I consider it is wrong to indicate my standpoint. My message is to create, generate, and compel admiration. People’s task is to adjust my artworks.
Are you still here? Good, let us enter my portfolio…
The portfolio includes pictures of my artworks, sources of artistic inspiration that helped me when deciding on design, composition, form and its usability in future. You can see there is no specific style, historical time or designer that influences my artworks. For instance, when looking at my graphic design you can find some signs of constructivism because I admire such artists as Piet Mondrian and Gustavs Klucis.
You would be surprised of knowing what simple and maybe even unbelievable things inspire me. Once I was observing a cube of ice melting in a glass of water; ice – such a rough and at the same time fragile material, it is endangered by warmth and flame. I enjoy playing with associations and contrasts, so I decided to create a lamp made of organic glass, - glass symbolizing ice, and light bulb – fire.
Mostly my design works go beyond the idiom of minimalism and abstractionism, origami art which, to my mind, lately impacts modern architecture and design. I feel inspired by them; and in my portfolio you can see that I used origami art constructions and structure in creating a coffee table made of iron. I used the material as little as possible to make it modest and simple.
Sometimes my present teachers give us challenging tasks. One of the last ones was designing a chair for clinical or dental facilities. My task was to make this chair as pleasant to be looked at as it is to sit.
Well, who loves visiting a dentist? I suppose no one. I made a minor research, went to visit my dentist, made him laugh about me; and while having dental cleaning, brainstormed about the design of the chair. Such researches really help me when creating.
By the way, the task of creating a chair for clinical or dental facilities was successfully completed, - with a touch of sarcasm, humor and sagacity.
Imagine a person standing on a skyscraper and yelling: ‘Challenge me, give me impossibly crazy and creative tasks!’ – Who is this person? – Me!
